superbowl monday

I’ve known the outcome of every Superbowl in recent history before I even watched the game.

I don’t have ESP or even a magic eight ball. I’ve just been forced to watch it the day after for as long as I can remember. And even when I try avoiding Facebook or news websites, I inevitably hear who won before I even get to watch. Good thing I can keep a secret.

With the time difference, the game airs in the middle of the night in Africa. So we record it and watch it the next day with our staff team. Superbowl Monday has become one of our family traditions.

(Sadly, all the commercials are replaced with ridiculously tacky ones. So I miss the best part of the game.)

This year I was thrilled that I’d get to watch the Superbowl here in America, commercials and all. But then I discovered that the stuff I had going on over the weekend meant I was going to miss it. Again.

So just like old times, I taped it and watched it tonight. Pizza, beer, game, Arizona losing, and millions wasted spent on thirty-second commercial time slots… What more could I want for my annual Superbowl Monday?

What was the funniest/craziest/weirdest/saddest part of your Superbowl?

  1. I didn’t even know it was the super bowl until I saw it on Twitter. Dang…I still don’t even know who was playing. But I will download some commercials soon. I hope they were funny…I like funny.

A little troubling for me to admit … but although I loved several of the commercials, there was only one I had to rewind to see again. Maybe it is a healthcare thing … maybe it was just sheer disbelief, but I had to LOL at the LMAO commercial.
    Seriously.
What were they advertising? I think the “funny” shows on NBC, but I am not sure. Since I cannot remember, maybe the commercial was not effective, but it was hysterical to me.
I am not sure my kids knew what to do with my reaction!
    Seriously.

We ended up at a friend’s house with a full turkey dinner and a soft recliner couch. Steelers won. That was incredibly awesome. Commercials were okay.

The best part: My kids were there ALL 3. My husband and I shared a recliner O my gosh that’s huge. and he even held my me.

    That’s a good superbowl..

  6. ric booth says:

Funniest part: Old Bruce running out of breath trying to be young Bruce.

Saddest part: Realizing I remember young Bruce.

  7. Debra says:

Watched a few commercials … disappointing. Watched the last few minutes and saw the sad ending. I love Kurt’s testimony and wanted him to win.

My favorite part … all the wives sitting around the dining room table playing “Bananagrams” while the hubby’s watched the game. :)

  8. ashley says:

I woud say my favorite part was at 10:30 after the superbowl when the office came on it. That was my favorite part of superbowl sunday :)

  9. annie says:

Um – I didn’t watch the second half. Because PBS was playing the new Sense and Sensibility during the Superbowl. Well, the first half. The second half we get to watch next week. :D We were (apparently) rooting for the Cardinals … so I heard their touchdown at 2:50 left of the fourth quarter (my husband was in the other room YELLING), and didn’t hear anything else ’til I came out and House was on. I said, “The game is over?” He just looked at me. “The Cardinals lost obviously?” “Obviously.” :)

So sad you didn’t get to watch it live! :( Although you did get the commercials. They really weren’t that great this year I thought (the ones I saw). I did think the one with the guy getting thrown out of the window for suggesting they stop bringing Bud Light to the meetings was kinda funny. Ben said they didn’t have enough money to make funny commercials. I looked at him like he grew a third ear. I’m sure if they have several million to post a spot, they have a couple more to make sure it’s done right. Besides … is there a price tag on creativity? Disappointing.

  10. annie says:

Oh, and … I thought of you specifically when I posted my lastest post …

  11. annie says:

I meant latest post. Although lastest post is kinda funny.

  12. daniel watched the game with his dad. my dad went to church. my mom, me and the girls watched a movie snuggled in my bed on our laptop.

  13. I was totally planning on taking a nap and then getting up and watching it at 1:00 am here, but just like the Golden Globes (I was gonna watch them live as well), I ended up sleeping right through the whole thing. I guess that says that I value my sleep more than these events :) (Which I do!) hehehe

  14. jaceinafrica08 says:

hhahha walking downstairs watching my sister, my sisters boyfriend, my mammma bird and her boyfriend all screaming at the top of their lungs at the tv while stuffing their faces with chicken wings.

i don’t get how people love it so much, i guess i always get STUCK watching it cause my family are a bunch of weirdos and love it. that was the funnniest superbowl ever watching them all almost choke cause they were jumping/screaming/eating while watching it.

  15. Lisa says:

Over here in Germany, it means you have to get up in the middle of the night to watch it live, too.

Both Rick and I are not sports fans at all, so we never watch it. We consider it pretty good that we even know who’s playing. :)

  16. Marc says:

You can go here to see all the commercials:

  17. Soliloquy says:

I was not happy about the outcome of the game but that paled in comparison to my anger over the teleflora commercial with the wilted flowers berating the recipient by telling her no one would want to see her naked.

Spin emailed the company a complaint.

  18. Katie says:

my mom and i vetoed the game in favor of a movie night. oh, and I finished knitting a scarf I started last august….

  19. Crystal says:

well, I was the only one at the party rooting for the Steelers so it was fun running around the house Peirce-style yelling “goooooooooal”!

2nd favorite part were the ppl. I was hanging out with. They make me laugh so much! Odd fact, when i laugh really hard I drool a little bit…I drooled twice that night, lol!

  20. “wasted” is right.
I have big resentment issues with the commerciality of it all…

  21. gitz says:

My ten year old nephew calling after the Cardinals made their last touchdown to put them ahead and yelling in the phone, “How pumped are you right now?!?!?!”

    He’s so funny.

  22. Char says:

that we didn’t plan on a party here in Spokane, but kinda had one anyway…. I was so into it this year…sad I wasn’t with the gang watching it in SA…but happy to watch it live! :)

  23. alece says:

jean — i LMAO to that one too! :)

    heidi — wow. WOW.

ashley — when she threw the cat into the ceiling and it flew out the other side… oh my, i laughed so hard!

anneth — i’d concur that the commercials seemed to be lacking this year…

mo — i value sleep more than a lot of things!

soliloquy — way to go, spin.

tjarks — congrats on (finally) finishing the scarf!

crystal — i miss you, droolie.

mandy — meeee toooo. i could soapbox for far too long.

I got a laugh out of my bad day today. BTW.

I have to crawl under cars and I was getting up and SNAP! I thought what the hay?!!

My boulder holder broke.. No joke and I get up in my silky shirt and look at this old man and smiled
as my girls were sucking fresh air.

Of course I ran in and put my jacket on.

That BH was a trooper for a very long time.!!

  42. alece says:

i’m glad you could laugh amid the craziness of your day. and your boulder holder finally retired, eh???? she’s served you well!

    yup!! You have to laugh.

Because I am so tired of plucking my greys. I am too cheap (k, not me) to get it dyed. So I just really look 42 today.

So.. what did you laugh about today??

  44. alece says:

i read that way too fast the first time and thought you said you plucked 42 gray hairs today! oh dear.

laughter was limited today. i laughed a bit finally catching up on reading everyone’s comments on my recent posts. some funny stuff buried in there.

Know that when I walk the bay in the morning, I’ll be walking with you…

In the heart.. I love you friend.. so so so much.

  48. alece says:

thank you for taking me on your walk. that means so, so much.

enjoy that crumb cake. pick off a big crumb and eat it on its own for me. (that’s what i’d do!)

good night, friend. i love you!

  49. Jennifer Griffin says:

Best part…..Jennifer Hudson singing!! HOLY COW!

And…we know Big Ben so it’s cool that He won another Super Bowl! My hubby worked with his dad for 10 years. Shan used to throw the football with Ben when he was in junior high. Kinda cool to see him where he is now…and to know He loves God!

  50. jane says:

the saddest part of the game was the commercials!

the best…Husband is from Pittsburgh, so we were VERY happy with the results.

  51. That track is utterly incredible, I really like it!
