risky faith
Remember when I said I wanted to trust God for even greater things?
Apparently God was listening.
Our financial situation at Thrive Africa is extremely tight right now.
I wrote an email to our partners, letting them know what our needs are and how they can help. It was an unbelievably challenging letter to write, even though I’ve been raising funds for missions since, ohhhhhh, 1992.
This email took me waaaaay outside my comfort zone.
It’s the biggest, boldest ask in Thrive’s history.
We are trusting God for $80K in new support by June 1.
And my faith is being stretched to almost-painful extremes.
But I know God has greater things still in store for Thrive.
So we’re moving forward in active trust.
I’m working on the details of my huge fundraising trip that starts in just a couple weeks. I’ll be in Tennessee, Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, and Virginia. (Let me know if you want to help!)
We launched a new website that shows how you can impact South Africa, and each week we’re going to celebrate 10 Buck Tuesday.
If you’ve been around a while, you know I don’t ask for prayer very often.
But I would really appreciate your prayers right now.
For Thrive. For provision. For my trip.
And for my faith to be strong in the One who is strongest.

Praying in agreement Alece
Praying for you my sweet friend and that ALL your needs be met. We know God is in control.
Gotcha covered.
Have you maybe heard “Be you. Nobody does it better.”? Alece, I think that’s you on this trip. I know that you are going to speak out of the overflow of your heart, and that is what people are going to hear. And the Spirit is going to move on hearts. And bring glory to the Father.
Thanks in advance for keeping us in the loop about the different legs of the trip.

Oh, Alece, I know where you are at…on some level. It’s such a difficult time for fundraising (that’s just the reality of the situation), and it’s hard to ask people and churches to give when some churches don’t even know if they’ll be able to pay their pastors next month. At the same time, a church that is not giving to missions can not possibly be a church that is fully alive. And I wholeheartedly believe that a church that gives during its time of need will be blessed. You, of course, know all of this.
I’ve heard statistics over the past year that missions-sending denominations in the U.S. actually saw significant increases in giving during the Great Depression. The ‘Great Recession’ we are experiencing cannot, and will not, mean the end of the Great Commission.
Just remember that when you ask someone to donate to missions, you are giving them an opportunity to be part of something much bigger than themselves. You are not just asking them to ‘sacrifice’ and you are not asking them to do something that’s a burden to them. You’re asking them to do something awesome, and something that will change their life for the better in ways they can’t imagine. Be BOLD – you yourself are worth it, your calling is worth it, and most of all HIS mission that he is working out in you is worth it.
Prayers, prayers, prayers going up for you now.
Praying…keep us posted on how it is going!

Father I have been reading the vision and mission of Thrive from their website. I have read, and now it’s time to pray! I ask in the name of Jesus that you provide all the support necessary to keep this mission up and running – financial, prayer support, practical assistance – every single thing that Thrive needs to keep operational, I ask you to provide, Father God. I ask in Jesus name that you BLESS Alece…. and that her vision is expanded! May her territory increase! May the power of the Spirit be hers! And as she shares her life and story with us, her family – may your healing hands overshadow her heart! I ask in Jesus’ name that you release every favour imaginable upon her and upon Thrive, and I pray that MIRACLES will sprout from the GROUND for her and for her ministry! May benefactors come from the east, west, north and south! May the GLORY OF THE LORD be risen upon Thrive – and upon Alece herself!
Thank you Jesus Christ – the ONE TRUE GOD – the ALPHA, the OMEGA, the HEALER, the PROVIDER, the ALL IN ALL. THANK YOU. AMEN
We have just relocated to Richmond, VA, and can surely help with anything you need if you end up in our area. It’s going to be great to watch what God does! Off to pray for you right now…
Amen! Praying with you! I believe in Thrive (and you!)!
Oh, and God. Did that go without saying?
