have you ever…

… texted while driving?

Or rather—How often do you text while driving?

If you missed the previous Have You Evers, go back and weigh in.

Have you ever brought your laptop into the bathroom?

Or gone commando?

Come on! It’s confession time!

  1. Rarely. And no more than 3 words. I wouldn’t be able to keep the car on the road otherwise! Slightly unco-ordinated. :D

  2. Marc says:

i actually canceled texting from my service… saved me a ton of money [...on my car insurance - jk ]

  3. alece says:

marc – ha! (and seriously? no texting? oh man… i couldn’t do it.)

  4. I’ve only done it a few times – and I always feel very guilty and like such a bad driver (well, that is such a bad driver!)

  5. I did it a lot. But now I don’t drive at all, what with living in the city. Speaking of which, I still need to sell that car…. grr……

  6. Rindy Walton says:

I used to text all the time. Now, after being in 3 accident within 2 months (none my fault and none related to texting, but scared the crap out of me ’cause all were miracle we’re alive)…I made a deal with my guys not to do anything distracting. (so now only at lights or in “emergency”).

And no I’ve never gone commando or taken my laptop into the bathroom! ;)

  7. Marc says:

alece – yeah i got in that mode when i was trying to save money and minimize things i was paying for. i cut my bill down to $32… except my bill last month was $123 cause i went a little over.

I realize that I don’t ever leave comments on your blog but I thought that this would be good one to comment on. Let me start with my confession…Yes! Not very often but that’s not really the point.

I have a friend (her name is Angelique) and she is very set in her ways about texting and driving. Her daughter just turned 16 and Ang made her daughter sign a contract saying she wouldn’t EVER text and drive. After telling me this, she went on a rant about how dangerous it was and such. I’ve sort of felt guilty since :(

  9. taylor says:

i’m a repeat offender. i hang my head in shame.
    :]

  10. annie says:

I too am a repeat offender. Unfortunately. Sometimes I do try to text without looking at the phone … for the whole text. And then I get to see how many words I misspelled.

I have TEXTED YOU while driving.

It’s actually against the law here in San Diego, ask my husband he just got a $137 ticket in the mail.

Seriously tho as a insurance adjuster, I’ve seen a teen fatality accident because of texting, I only do it when the traffic is completely stopped.

  12. Katie says:

i have a hard time being in the car without doing something else, like texting, eating, talking on the phone, messing with my ipod. in college i used to do my homework and study for the tests in the car…ADD perhaps?

and for #2– when you’re mid-conversation and you’ve gotta go, you don’t want to have to break to pee. so yes, i’m all about talking on the phone and laptoping on the john…

  13. yes, i have. i used to do it a lot, using the excuse that i don’t have to look to type accurately. but now that it’s illegal in CA, i turn my phone to quiet when i start driving so that i’m not tempted.

  14. gitz says:

    I never text.

I have a cell phone for emergencies with limited minutes, but since I don’t leave the house I never need to use it.

    So… I’ve never texted… (is that a word? texted?)

  15. faithstart says:

and all three within the past week!!!

ok alece, dont hate me i just have to tell this story of why!!!
(brandy you will get a kick out of this!)

So i was working out and when i was done i showered and was changing into my clean clothes, i put on a thong then my jeans (all the while there is a woman watching out of the corner of her eye). only after i had my pants on did i realize that my thong was VERY uncomfortable. so i took my pants off and then my underwear and then put my jeans back on minus the undies!! I can only imagine what this woman must have been thinking!!! i put on regular ones when i got home a while later. and yesterday i was chatting with my niece and took the computer in the bathroom when i had to go, im sure she would have thought it was so funny! and i do text while driving, its not very safe but then again what is safe to do while driving except for watching the road!

so sorry alece, i just had to bring it down once again!

Brandy, i hope you enjoyed that!

  16. Photoqueen says:

I don’t text – we don’t have it in our plan. I know if we added it, I’d be addictd in no time, and then I’d have to really find some self-control when driving. It’s just better not to start…

  17. hannahruthie says:

yikes! yes I do. Have you seen the new movie 7 Pounds with Will Smith? It made me feel guilty about texting, but the guilt didn’t last long. I sometimes text while I’m driving, but my phone isn’t that important to me. I can go a long time without checking it to see if there are messages or even knowing where it is. I’m not very attached. If someone needs me, they’ll get ahold of me eventually.

  18. Becca says:

I have been known to do it on occasion. I try to avoid it as much as I possibly can, though.

  19. Brandy says:

    don’t text, ever, so….NO.

laptop in bathroom…. not that I recall but Im sure I have. haha

commando….is there any other way? Seriously? ;-) Underwear are overrated!

  20. Brandy says:

HOw did I know that Faith would be sure to entertain?! ;-) heehee

  23. charlenegarrett says:

well you know how much I like to text (j/k)….don’t really do it while driving much….

  24. I drive while texting for sure!! DWT

I’ve been known to text while going to the bathroom

I’ve been known to text while on the cross trainer
    at the gym

I’ve been know to text my friend who i am also talking to online

I’ve been known to text people at work while in my pocket

    I’ve been known to text…..

  25. unfortunately yes….but now no, since I don’t drive anymore ;(

  26. Megan says:

umm… yes. sometimes. i manage to do it without looking, though, so i don’t swerve all over the road. but it’s not all that often that i think a text is urgent enough to do it while driving.

    first – i LOVE moweezie’s pic!!

i dont think ive texted while driving. im a little paranoid about that.

  28. April says:

I am totally guilty of texting while I am driving…unless my husband is in the car. He chews me out if I text while I am driving and eh knows about it.

Commando?? I am with Brandy on this one. Of course I have…fairly regularly in fact! It’s comfortable!

  29. jane says:

nope again. i try not to talk on my cell phone when driving….seen to many people hurt/killed. there isn’t anything in my life that is worth injuring another.

  30. Yes to all three. But for the laptop, it was to listen to music while bathing.

  31. jaceinafrica08 says:

i still don’t understand how people text and drive, it makes me nervous…very veryyyy NERVOUS. i have never done it even though i just started driving.

and i always take my laptop to the bathrooom aka if i am gonnna be in there for a while if ya know what i mean hahahhahaha.

  32. faithstart says:

Alece i just got my first speeding ticket!!!! 53 in a 40!!! and for the record i was not texting!

  33. alece says:

oh my… some of these are so, so rich!

(and my own personal confession—i’m surprised no one asked—i text while driving. a lot. eeek!)

  34. Cindy Beall says:

It’s that dang commando question again. I’ll resort to my last comment when you asked this:

er, um, well, I, uh, so…

  35. alece says:

you make me laugh, miss cindy!

don’t want to be a downer but isn’t texting while driving a good way to die quickly? I have enough trouble plugging my phone into its charger while driving let alone write a comprehensible statement. but thats just me…

  37. Kelly says:

I never text while driving. BUT i definitely make use of a designated texter!

  38. Ugh. I’m so guilty.
I have cut back a lot – mostly because I use my phone to listen to music through my stereo. So, the texting/chatting has to wait.

Another reason I cut back is that I have a 13 yr old who will soon be driving and I’m not setting a good example for her and definitely don’t care to hear “But Mom, YOU do it!”

I like the idea of a contract with her when she gets her license. I’m gonna use that one!

  39. Anna says:

No texting while driving….. I rarely text anyway… no one to text.

  40. I usually ever text if I’m at a stop light while I’m driving. But yes there has been the occasional text and drive.

  41. Shhhh, don’t tell my teenagers and adult children… yes….

  42. jessica says:

yes. and I almost got in an accident
