french cuisine
I’m about to fly home to Africa after being in America for five months. That means for almost half a year I’ve…
- stayed in other people’s homes.
- not sat at a desk for a normal days’ work.
- traveled a lot.
- not cooked a real meal.
- drank gallons of frothy beverages from Starbucks.
- had friends on speed-dial and made frequent use of those buttons.
- did my own laundry.
- strolled through Target whenever I wanted to.
I’m going to miss aspects of each of those when I’m back home. (Yes, even the laundry!) Okay, I may not really miss staying in other people’s homes; I am definitely ready for my own space with my own couch.
I think even more than I’ll miss my beloved grande non-fat extra-hot chai lattes, I’ll miss not cooking. I’m not good at it. I don’t like it. And I hate having to plan out meals. But alas, duty calls. And cook I shall.
French toast anyone?

From the looks of it Neil was handling it just fine in your absence. While not let him handle that aspect of your domestic dynamics?
FYP, FYP and more FYP

safe travels friend… and I’ll see you on the flip side in a week. Maybe while the boys are doing home-brew with king corn, we can come up with a Starbucks-inspired frap blend of our own?!!!
I can’t wait to do life together again.
@moweezle says:
But no more living out of suitcases!!! That’s the best part :) I’m sure Africa is extremely excited to finally have you back.
ps. Those giraffes are too great. Lightens up the look and I love it!
yea … we are leaving for the land where meat is cheap.
beer is strong
walking naked is a daily occurance
and a house full cereal where i can be myself…
do my own things
and sit on my couch and watch friends……
God bless America

Anti-
I believe………………..
You are truly going back to Africa a Changed man!!
We’ll be waiting for your return…
i enjoyed reading the links you had in here. Maybe pick up some easy cookbooks like Rachel Ray 30 min meals before you go home. I find that if I plan ahead at the beginning of the week when I do my shopping, its so much easer to make meals. Oh and we always have frozen pizza at least once a week, we love it! I will miss late night chats with you! But I think it might be good for my sleeping not to have you here, hehe.
I hope you have a safe flight to Africa! I’ll be praying for you!!!
P.S. – awesome banner! :)
I am actually sad you are going back already….. Why? I do not know… I guess I wished I could of met you. But I guess if you aren’t coming to me, I will just have to come to you one day. :) Yes, I mean in Africa…. not any day soon, but SOME DAY
I’ve appreciated having you on speed dial, too.
I love french toast.
(but I love you more)
For you praying…again…
Mai Oui!
Bon Voyagee :-)
Great Banner!
On the plus side – you’ll be closer to me soon :-)
Not close enough – but closer – i find that a little comforting :-)
<B
I want a Joyce. Besides my mother in law. She’s also Joyce. But she doesn’t do my laundry. LOL!
I love you, and even though blog friends don’t move, I am going to miss our “at the same time” chats.
AB: walking naked is a daily occurance? You meant dancing right? ;-)
Haha. Gotta love the French toast. (Where would we be without the French, anyway?)
there’s nothing like crawling into your own bed after being away from it for a while!
and I’ll take three slices of french toast. butter and syrup, pretty please.
@tamhodge says:
i love me some french toast!
i love that you will still be as close as my laptop. always accessible to me! yes. im selfish that way!
Can you remember coming to visit with some interns back in 2001… I can remember b/c we were in our first flat. We were so poor (and i think we’re poor now!) and had nothing to offer. I remember we bought 4 loaves of bread and made a ton of french toast! I don’t know if you remember, but I do. I love French toast. But American style with butter and syrup, not SA style with something savory on top!
Have a safe and great flight home! I know everyone there misses you and is excited for your arrivel!!! Things in America are convienient…but Africa loves and misses you while you are away!!!! One day we will get that hug :-) Talk to you soon!
HELLO!!! Safe travels, sister….I am visiting you over from She had to say it blog…..WOW!!! I am totally coming back to read more….my husband, 2 kids and I were missionaries in Madang, Papua New Guinea with New Tribes Mission. I can’t wait to read up about your ministry….blessings on your trip and settling back into your home! :)
I will be praying for safe travel!
At least you are leaving a couple of pieces of you behind, for us to remember you by! : )
Be blessed as you travel, enjoy your 12 hour nap Alece, and be kind to those who are jealous that you wake up as you are landing!
We will miss you here on this American soil, but I know that Africa has been counting down the moments of your return!

anna — your comment was so sweet! yes. someday indeed!
becca — i can just hear that song of yours… “FRENCH toast!”
love — true, i’m evening out the time zone difference now!

What happened to the time?
When things were calm, you were attending to family stuff, or sacrificing body parts to the greater good of oration and health!
Give Africa a hug for me!!!
Tell Shvendel “Howdy”!!
Louie and I miss you both very much!
