four-minute friday: wonderbread

Go.

I need to be honest. After being in Seattle for a couple weeks, I’m finding it a little more challenging to be back in Wonderbread, Ohio. (No offense to any of my midwesterly readers!) There are lots of reasons it’s hard to be here right now: I miss the city. I crave diversity. It’s lonely.

Having friends nearby all day every day for two weeks straight was just what I needed. And now I’m back to being far from those my heart holds close. Hmph.

I’m driving to Cleveland today, though, and I’m already smiling just thinking of how fill-upping it will be. And not just because there’s potential for some slightly-more-urbanesque experiences than I get in my corner of the state. But because I’ll have a weekend with my heart’s friend. Which means there’s bound to be lots of laughter, long talks, stretches of comfortable silence, late nights, and (of course) some Flight of the Conchords.

And I get to crank up the jams on my road trip there and back. Awwwwww yeah…

Done.

Go ahead and four-minute about your weekend plans. Or, well, anything really.

    Road Trip!!!! Yes!

Just chillin’ this weekend. Last two prior weekends were super, super full. It is nice to not have anything planned.

Today it is Labor Day here. Ironic that people don’t work on Labor Day, isn’t it? It should be called something else like I Work Hard I Deserve a Day Off Day. Or Labor Schmabor Day.

    Enjoy your weekend!

Those boring Ohio roads! I can sympathize, being married to an Ohioan and having visited the state often. Isn’t it amazing how something like a boring car ride can be looked forward to if you get to listen to great music the whole time? Enjoy!

  3. Go.

This is my first four minute post. Did you realize that your last two four minutes were about bread? Amusing.

I’m glad you are goind to see Cathi…I think your name for her is just about an amazing name as there could be. What a blessing to be called that.

Daniel works a half day today, this afternoon I’m meeting with a lady to talk about starting Avon (silly, I know…but a stream of income is still income, right?) and then hopefully stopping by a new mom’s from church.

Tomorrow we are helping a friend move into the home that they are looking to rent today, going to my brothers graduation and Daniel’s softball games.

This is harder than I thought…I’m only at two minutes.

I’m glad you get to listen to your ipod…I’m guessing you got your car adapter!

I love you, I am praying for you.

I decided I like a new drink at Starbucks: Soy Vanilla Creme with an extra shot of carmel (not extra hot).

    Done.

    Go.

This weekend will be filled with unpacking and more unpacking and, prayerfully, being done with unpacking. And, then I will be able to catch up reading emails and blogging … and, with the finishing of unpacking, we will have school in our new schoolroom that the Lord afforded us in this house. COOL! And, prayerfully, I won’t throw up any this weekend … just hitting the edge of nausea. Ugh! But, I won’t complain because the Lord is knitting a precious little person and the nausea is way worth it! :)

I’ll be praying for you to have a fantabulous road trip and an even greater time with your heart friend. Awesome! What a blessing to have those. There are many in this world who don’t. I have learned that as I grow older and am ever grateful for those precious friends in my life.

Okay, I think I’m done and I lost track of time … oops!

    Love you Alece!

    Done.

I hate wonderbread – but I love my wonderbread Nebraska. I entirely understand the long drives in the middle of nowhere – you think OH is bad? Try driving through IA sometime. *shudders*
The last few days have been carefully planning my time at home – I know exactly when I will see my David again, and that gives my heart a bit of extra hope in this time of shutting down and traveling again.
I leave a week from tomorrow. So, this weekend will be spent studying for finals, getting coffee, resting up, and planning out what gifts I need to buy for people, still. Oh, and maybe I’ll make it to that Holocaust Memorial museum before I leave… I haven’t done that, yet.
All in all, it will be a nice weekend.
OH! And David and I will be discussing the next 4 chapters in What is the What. Good book – I’d recommend. It’s about one of the Sudanese Lost Boys and his journeys through Sudan, Kenya and eventually in America.
Did you know that Omaha, NE has the highest percentage of Sudanese refugees of all the states? Or that it has a zoo that definitely ranks in the top 10 in the nation, if not top 5? You should visit me sometime… but remember to take a flight – driving is not worth it! ;-)
    Done.

Road trips are the best…so therapeutic. We aren’t doing anything too exciting. I’m looking forward to spending some quality time with Jack Wilson, as I don’t get to see him much during the week since I started working again. I also hope to join a gym tomorrow. It is time to tone now that most of the baby weight is gone. We are heading to Dallas Sunday for church. That’s about all for the Houzes. Have a great trip! Love you, friend.

  10. annie says:

I love to hear of your journeys (btw, you and your writing is so challenging me right now).

My weekend? Hopefully I can drag myself out of bed early enough to go garage sale shopping. For pots! (Planting pots, that is). Pots are SO dang expensive (way more than the plant in many cases) and if there’s a way to get them for $.50 – I’m there! :) Hopefully I’ll find some nice big planters. Half wine barrels would be really nice. Whatever ‘gardening’ I do will have to be in pots, since I don’t have dirt to call my own at my place. Yard, yes … but it’s covered with rock landscaping done by the association. I’m hoping whatever ‘gardening’ I do will not be encroaching on any association by-laws.

Sunday? church. Hebrew class. sleeping. Who knows what else.

    Love ya.

And then you take out the recycling. That’s not part of it but it’s still very important.

  12. alece says:

a slow weekend sounds fantastic! enjoy it.

  13. alece says:

i’m so glad you know what i’m talking about!

  14. alece says:

four minutes are sometimes longer than you’d think, eh? i’m glad you did this, yeller. it made me smile!

as for my name for cathi, i can’t take credit for that one. she came up with it, and now it’s something we call each other. although usually i just call her decath. as in i’m looking forward to the venti decath i’m gonna have this weekend! :)

you’ve got a full few days ahead. i’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on avon. there’s always shaklee, too.

thinking of you! i love you.

  15. alece says:

oh yeah — and the bread “theme” was not intentional. and i didn’t even realize until you pointed it out. ha!

  16. alece says:

    court proceedings?????

and, umm, i think the fridge can wait. :)

love you! (i laughed at gertie i need to start calling her that more often!)

  17. alece says:

okay, clearly we haven’t gotten caught up with each other in ages. you’re being sued!? ugh. i’m sorry, friend. i’ll be praying for favor!

The greatest thing about our friendship.

We’ll catch up here soon… and it won’t even seem we were gone for that long. :)

    Thanx!

  19. alece says:

did you get some cheap pots???

and really? how’s my writing’s challenging you?

  20. alece says:

how’s your new job, friend? and way to go on joining a gym. i went to my first zumba class last week – plan to go again this week… might as well attempt to exercise while having as much fun as possible!

  21. alece says:

you leave so soon! i would love to see the pics of your places, so let me know if you get to take ‘em! did you get down to the holocaust museum yet?

i’d come to NE for you, not the zoo. but i wouldn’t be opposed to going to the zoo with you! :)

  22. alece says:

sounds like a full weekend. i hope “relaxing” really managed to squeeze itself into it all!

  23. alece says:

    you are so right!

  24. alece says:

i so hope to have (MAKE!) time this week to get caught up in the blogosphere. i need to read up on what’s happening in your life!

i love that you four-minuted with me. i hope you had a refreshing weekend.

  25. roo says:

I can count the days on one hand. And I don’t think I’ll have a chance to get to the holocaust museum. I can’t find anyone to go with me, really. So, I’ll spend some extra time with my camera in the Old City while I shop, and taking pictures of my favorite places around. Maybe I’ll go to the Holy Sepulchre again. Maybe. :-)
