four-minute friday: gettin’ my groove on

Go.

I love me some music.

I can’t carry a tune and I don’t play any instruments, but dang—I love me some music. It just resonates with me. Sometimes it’s the lyrics (I’m a words girl), or the acoustic guitar, or the perfect harmonies. Sometimes I can’t even put my finger on what “it” is. I just know a song has it.

And I love it.

Every song has a “crank it up” spot—the part I love the most, that’s best heard at top volume. Drive with me once and you’ll know exactly what I mean.

I have absolutely no rhythm, but music just moves me. I find it impossible to stay still. Sometimes a girl’s just gotta get her groove on.

I wish I could actually dance.

But the fact that I can’t doesn’t stop me from dancing in the car. Or in my bedroom. Or, my personal favorite, in the kitchen.

Because seriously—there ain’t nothin‘ like kitchen dancing.

Done.

Haha! I can see you now ;D Right now, my favorite crank it song is “Stand in the Rain” by Superchicks! It’s got the guitar and then some lingering parts.. I don’t know what you call them but I love it!

My iPod is now hard wired into my brain.

    “Mustang Sally” – Wilson Picket
    “Need You Tonight” – INXS
    “Shame” – PJ Harvey
    “Gloria” – Laura Branigan
and of course “My Sharona” – The Knack

I am Fred Astaire, if that dates me too much, than John Travolta, in my house.
    Elmer Fudd in public.

I loved reading this and visualizing you rockin’ it out. Music (singing and just listening) continues to be an outlet for me…it’s a wonderful, powerful thing that just does something to me. And by the way, you most certainly CAN carry a tune!

Music has a way of touching your soul. In a way that nothing else can. I remember all to often my kids being embarrassed as I drive and dance at the same time. They finally got to a point were they just see me and think “there goes Pops again”. You are right that some music is best as loud as it will go. I have a mean air guitar and play the best drum steering wheel. But on the other side it has also made me weep harder then I ever thought possible.

i’m notorious for sock-dancing on hardwood floors, too. i get busted all the time because i forget to refrain when others are around.

  7. Get your groove on girl! My boys and I get down with it in our house. :) Titus has some mad skillz. lol…I’m so not into getto terms.

Music is like breathing to me. I think I may die if it was out of my life. I love to sing.

I am a total Ginger Rogers in my own head… but probably Lucille Ball to everyone else. I love dancing so much, I even forced the husband to take ballroom dance classes with me.

sometimes i have a love/hate relationship with my iPod. really only when i’m listening with headphones… because it’s SO HARD to remember that not everyone else can hear the music in my head!

  11. I love how you wrote about music. I think this all the time…how much I do appreciate music. It’s emotional, soothing, encouraging, understanding. Harmonies…mmmm. :)
