all skate
Remember at the roller rink when they’d call an all skate?
Well, I’m calling an all skate at the Grit.
Everyone’s gotta comment on this one.
Even the silent-lurker types.
It’s time to de-lurk.
So here’s the all skate question:
In ten words or less, tell me who you are.

@moweezle says:
complicated. adventurous. messy yet organized. risky. loving. strong-willed yet soft. messianic.
@gritandglory says:
“strong-willed yet soft” applies to me too. i like the way you phrased that.
passionate, confused introvert, seeking God’s will. who wants a hedgehog.
@gritandglory says:
“who wants a hedgehog” – ha ha! love it.

@knights_lady says:
My favourite post here. Reminds me of Nooma Name.
@gritandglory says:
i’ve never seen that one. but now i really want to!
Hard to sum up in ten words. Maybe eleven, though…. :)
that was 10.
bahahaha.
;) Wondering if anyone would catch that…
@gritandglory says:
all chuckles!
In all seriousness…
Josh. Sinner. Saved by grace. Redemption in process. The end. :)
@elainaavalos says:

I know I don’t know you. But come move to Seattle, unstick yourself, try something totally scary and new! I have adventures to share.
@nateonamission says:
SEATTLE IS AMAZING!!!!
kind of funny that you would say Seattle. I have been thinking about moving there for a couple of years. Kind of wishing that I had the guts to make the move. Hoping to know God’s will for what I should be doing but Seattle is still definitely in my realm of possibilities.
@gritandglory says:
this whole dialogue gave me chills.
it has freaked me out a little the last couple days. I thought WA was pretty much out of the picture but three times in the last four days someone has said something about it, completely unprovoked…..
@gritandglory says:
i’m just sitting here shaking my head. i wonder what God is up to…
@nateonamission says:
God works online too! yay for that! I’m telling you, you would never regret moving to Seattle. Washington State is one of the most beautiful places in the states. I wouldn’t ever pick somewhere else. This will always be base for my world travels! If you ever have questions about this lovely place, I’m more than willing to answer them!
Hey Jennifer and Nathan, what do you guys do in Seattle. Are you from there?
@nateonamission says:
I’ve grown up in and around Seattle my whole life. I’ve never lived more than an hour away from Downtown Seattle. Right now, I work for a private school district here in the Puget Sound. I live about 20 minutes from downtown. It’s the most diverse place I’ve ever seen. I can be on the ferry on the Puget Sound, and see two mountain ranges, downtown Seattle, and Mount Rainier.
I grew up in South Seattle basically my whole life. Did college in Arkansas, grad school in New Orleans, and then some time in my beloved South Africa (not my native land but it always feels like it…that’s why I first found Grit and Glory. Back in Seattle now over a year and am falling in love with it as an adult now. I have worked for World Vision here and now am in clinical research.
And like Nathan says, you can do anything here outdoorsy and there is every sort of field/job/work experience too. Every culture is here, race, creed, even ministry to reach each one. I love it. God has called me to be here for now and I am here very happily.
@gritandglory says:
[i never knew you lived in SA for a while! where/when/why? - i wanna hear your story!]
carry on…
Alece- I fell in love with the very idea of South Africa when I was seven and first watched The Power of One. I believed it was where I wanted to serve. At 17 I went on a 3 week trip to the Cape Flats of Cape Town with Adventures in Missions. Found it WAS where I wanted to be, it felt like running into my own heart across the world. Then I prayed, searched, cried over the idea of going again every month and year for the next six. When all of a sudden God plopped an opportunity to do an internship with World Vision (all paid) in Johannesburg for five months in 2008.
I spent the first two months thrilling to the idea of living in my beloved country and the next three crying sporadically at the thought of having to ever leave it. But I did, the internship ended and as you probably know being a white foreigner doesn’t open many jobs. So I moved back home and though I ache to go back all the time, I believe God has called me to the community I am at now for NOW-no idea how long that will last though…
Thrilled/amazed at life, egotist, atheist, retired, lives for today
i love you Ed, no matter where you comment, it always makes me smile!
@gritandglory says:
i think “former egotist” would be more fitting. you are one of the most loving, encouraging men i know.
Obsessive, meticulous, cluttered, learning to focus, cautious, not easily impressed.
Isaiah 6:5-8
@elainaavalos says:
Amen to that!
I am loved, I am His and I am growing.
This one is my favorite and the one I want to identify most with. I really wish I could say these things with confidence but dang it if I don’t get in the way of what God is doing in my life. I hate that I do that . Dang.
@gritandglory says:
i loooooooved this.
can i just say “ditto” to yours?!
@Nomadstacey says:
No…THAT’S cheating! :)

Girl straddling between who I am & who I’m becoming.
@PrudyChick says:
I think on some level we are all straddling between who we are and who we’re becoming. That is the preciousness of sanctification. I love the imagery.
@gritandglory says:

it’s hard to sum up a heart in 10 words, like putting the ocean in a bottle, but a great deal of who I am branches out from this attitude and it makes a good topic sentence for the essay of my life:
Not zephyr but fettered gale, passive passion striving to prevail.
you’re smart. Whoa.
I’m foregoing the ten words format to do a haiku instead:

I am most certainly a Grit observer (Or silent-lurker, as Alece made mention. :-) ) however, I wanted to comment on the simple delight I took in seeing several people replying to threads with things like “me too” and “this applies to me, also”.
It made me think of something my Pastor once said “What you think, what you feel, what you do, or have done is nothing new. Someone before you has thought it, felt it, and done it.” I believe this to be true though, I’ve heard so many accounts of people feeling like they were alone in something.
It is disheartening and quite shocking the opening satan has when someone begins to think that they are only one who feels a certain way.
Even though it may be something as simple as the enjoyment of chocolate, or sharing a love for words, it’s amazing the amount of relief and strength one can find in knowing they are not “the only one”.
Oh the comfort we would give and could obtain, if only we were a bit more transparent with one another.
@gritandglory says:
it’s true. there is so much strength in the mere reminder that i am not alone.
i’m so glad you chimed in, loraleah. made me smile to hear from you again.
To be entirely honest with you, this is not my first time commenting. I simply decided to use my real name because I felt silly posting about transparency under an assumed one.
@gritandglory says:
my brain is running through all the possibilities of your “alter-ego” commenting name… i have no idea!
I sent you a message on facebook that will explain.
