my africa

Thrive Africa Africa is nothing like you imagine and everything you hope for. It’s not all as it’s depicted on National Geographic, but the continent’s raw, authentic beauty is no less gripping and life-changing. Her soil is fertile with hope; her people warm, friendly, and genuinely happy. Her sons’ and daughters’ eyes tell entire life stories with a single glance, and her wildlife speaks of a loving Creator with an incredible sense of humor.

Africa steals the hearts of anyone who comes here. I know. It happened to me.

Our ministry, Thrive Africa, equips and mobilizes indigenous leaders to reach their communities for Christ. I’m passionate about leadership development and believe our strategy for AIDS prevention will turn the tide of the AIDS pandemic.

The Thrive website has tons of information about South Africa, if you’re interested in reading more about this beautiful land. You can also learn about apartheid, South African culture, the Basotho people (the tribe we work with), and the AIDS pandemic.

Open your heart wide.

Africa needs you.

This is beautiful. I was only there a short time but the things you wrote are so true. “Her soil is fertile with hope; her people warm, friendly, and genuinely happy. Her sons’ and saughters’ eyes tell entire life stories with a single glance”…that is what I remember most. I would love to make it back someday with my husband at my side.

yeah, i’ve always done that. maybe because of the whole “mother africa” thing, i don’t know, but i’ve always imagined her as a “her”.

she’s not just a land, a continent, a place. she has a heartbeat.

      i’ve heard it.

    Hi Alece –

I am South African. You have captured my home so well – your words ring true with the echoes of a thousand memories I have of a place that aches with suffering and God’s grace. Beautiful. Thank you.

  6. Howzit Alece :)

I’m so glad I found you here, via The Gypsey Mama. I too am a South African, married to another South African, but currently living in Houston, TX. After a year of living here, we see-saw between emotions of adventure and longing for all things African, it gets in your blood!! I’ve enjoyed reading more about Thrive Africa…..Harrismith is a lovely place indeed! And your raw pain through your divorce humbled me immensely, you are a brave gal!!
