a good friend

“A good friend isn’t someone who makes you feel better.
A good friend is someone who makes you do better.”
::
How has a friend helped you become a better person?
Do you think they know?
Maybe you should tell them…

good question.
my Very Best Friend helps me to do all things better and give me the confidence to do so. He inspires me to live out of love, unconditional love.
other friends have lived out following Jesus, pursing dreams and being passionate in ways that challenge me and motivates me to continue on.
by telling me to get over myself…
Im with jon mark…..my closest friend recently told me to stop wavering in my faith and grow up. Either I believe God or not. If I dont, then stop singing and teaching about a God I dont believe in.
Shes awesome.

Danielle, that is a good answer! I echo you. :-)
So I am just going to leave it here and hope that she reads it…but today was my first guitar lesson, and I am totally dedicating it to Mrs. Thompson. She inspired me with the whole “do” thing and her 100 songs and all that she is as a musician…so yeah, I am pretty stoked that I get to have her in my life. Thanks Mandy.
I have several friends who’ve made me a better person. One that I think of is actually a friend who got mad at me and no longer speaks to me – by going through that situation and grieving the loss of that relationship, I’ve become a better person.
Thankfully, most of my other stories are a little more uplifting – ladies who’ve shared their lives with me in Bible study, friends who’ve lived beside me and shown me how to live out our faith, my husband who has helped me calm down and relax and not be so uptight!
Good question!
By holding me accountable. For me, good friends are around, but great friends are involved.
the friend who has helped me grow the most has spoken the truth in love, encouraged, and celebrated with my success. it takes a lot of trust to get to that point, but when it happens, it’s incredible!
hmmmmm.
it’s a good hmmmm. ;-)
OH Yes, They know. I have a tendancy to give them and God all the credit. I don’t know where I would be without the honesty of my friends, the people who truly know me and love me.
I thank them all the time. Then I sit back and wonder how I was so blessed to have them want to even be my friends. :)
It’s okay to be real … warts and all.

This friend of mine that I am thinking of… I tell her often how I feel..
She holds my heart
I hold hers….
I think the greatest friend that makes me do better is a fellow Outreach Staffer. If for no other reason (though there are many) God brought us to South Africa so we could become friends.
Making me do better… She’s blunt and honest, yet loving and careful. I think that’s how she’s helped me most is by telling me when I’m not making any sense and when I need to be real.
A good friend listens and then stays around. I haven’t scared off my good friend yet.
In addition to Danielle’s wonderful answer … there is one friend we share, Alece, that I would like to acknowledge here.
She is someone with whom I can share a laugh … a tear … a prayer request … or a great hug! We have many things in common, especially our love for Jesus and our family, and loyalty to our friends.
She challenges me by pursuing God and excellence in everything she does. Her heart for serving God has led her to many places, including Thrive Africa. She has inspired me to do a short term missions trip of my own one day!
There are some things I don’t share with this friend, as it wouldn’t be appropriate. And, there are some things her heart feels that I may never know. But, that is fine with me, as I know she loves the Lord, and He “will supply all her needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus”! (Phil. 4:19)
Thanks for allowing me to share …
I am humbled and blessed to have my daughter as my friend.
(And, through her friendship with you, Alece, I consider it a joy to also pray for you!)

yes, they know.
too many to count…just this weekend I had a friend give me tough advice…tough to give..tough to hear…
I love my friends because none of them are “yes men.” They’ll totally and lovingly call me out at any given moment. I wouldn’t be me without them.
And yes, they know it. And if I forgot they knew it, they’d remind me :)
these were so, so great to read!
thank you. i will go now and tell her. well, I’ll make her a card tonight and hand deliver it on Sunday.

She’s transparent and prepared to be vulnerable about her journey with God.
