20k comment competition

20k-post-size

We’re getting close to 20,000 comments here at the Grit. And that‘s worth celebrating because it reflects what I love most about my blog: the community that’s had here. The best bits aren’t found in my posts but in the comments. I value your input and feedback; I cherish the glimpses into your heart; I laugh at the crazy shenanigans that erupt.

Seriously. The comments are where it’s at.

So in celebrating the 20,000th comment, I’m really celebrating all of you. For making the Grit what it is. (Everybody together: Awwwwww.) Since we can’t all get together for a rockin’ party, the next best thing is a giveaway.

I was thinking how amazing it would be if the 20K commenter could win 20K. But yeah. So not gonna happen.

The person who posts the coveted 20K comment will win their choice of:

  • a personalized Moleskine journal with thoughts from me scribbled throughout it
  • a framed photograph of mine (of your choosing) with some ramblings from me about the picture
  • a $50 gift card to wherever you want

So get commenting. (Now’s the time to come out of hiding, all you lurkers!)

Next time you hear from me about the 20K competition will be when I announce the winner!

  14. so, although i’m like the lone commentor over here, there’s only like fifteen comments or something, so it doesn’t take forever for my comment to load like it does with the posts that have like ump-teen thousand comments.

  15. so i was supposed to rise and shine for church this morning.
    i rose.
    but i did not shine.

God shoulda known better than to send a rainstorm…

to the going down of the same
the name of the Lord shall be praised.

  18. ooooooooooooooookay.

time to finish the hair, so i don’t scare the church peeps.

Google the word ‘gritters’ and this is one of the top hits: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_service_vehicle

Maybe the term ‘gritter’ can be a homograph.

Here is an interesting article about gritters at work:

City’s icy roads to get sprayed with … syrup

  31. i’m impressed, by the way, that you started this contest so far before the 20k comment.
very effective tool in suspense/excitement building.

    bravo, milady. bravo.

  32. so, hubby and i are laying at opposite ends of the coach, resting from the morning service.
i left the front door open to add a little cool breeze to the equation.

i can hear the jet-skis whizzing across the water, and i am suddenly jealous. but still too chill to get up and go out there with the rest of ‘em.

  33. did i mention misty edwards is singing softly in the background?
this is a quite nice sunday.

  34. which reminds me….today church was tres good. we sang an old timey get it goin’ type of song, and people ended up jumping around and whatnot. and when i say people, i mean the old people. they got ALL bout it.

    it was fun.

  35. time for a little a to z fun.

    a – age: 25. i hate that number.

  36. b – best holiday: christmas. and my birthday. well don’t i just sound selfish.

  37. c – chore i hate the most: i do believe that would be putting the laundry away. i’ve hated folding all my life, but since i realized you could watch movies and/or do online stuff pretty effectively while folding, i don’t have as much of an aversion to it.

  38. d – dog’s name: ella. as in ella fitzgerald. i know it’s nerdy.

  39. e – essential start your day item: sunshine. without a doubt.

  40. f – favorite color: too many. we’ll go with the short answer today: white, b/c it has all the colors in it.

  41. g – gold or silver: i look good in both, but i have more silver.

  42. (pause for sunday afternoon power nap)

  43. there’s nothing better than a telephone call right in the middle of a good nap….

  44. so let’s see….where was i?

    h – height: only about 5- 2 and a half. i’ll claim 5 – 3.

  45. i – instruments played: *cracks knuckles* piano, guitar, ukulele, drums, clarinet…and i used to play the recorder, haha.

I know the basic dynamics for making noise come out of instruments. Although I would be a great accompanist to Ross and his Synthesizer… yuck yuck yuck.

  46. j – job title: housewife extraodinaire/youth minister/worship leader/full-time grad student. whew…

  47. k – kids: nope. at least not yet!!!

  48. l – living arrangements: house. pro: it’s on the lake. con: it’s next door to the in-laws.

    can’t win ‘em all!

  49. m – mom’s name: joy. the reason i don’t really answer to that name.

  50. [random bit of trivia #3: my entire childhood i grew up being called 'renee'. it wasn't until high school (through a short series of confusing, but comical events) that people began calling me joy renee.]

  51. aaaaaaaand go.

n – nicknames: nay, nayners, nayterbug, joy-joy, JR, jerb, bubby.

  52. o – outstanding acheivment: the fact that i think i might have commented close to a hundred times on here. got my sights set on that prize.

    that’ll preach. :-P

  53. [random bit of trivia #4: once, my stepmom was baking, and while she had the oven door open, my little boston terrier, li'l bit, thought it smelled so good that she walked up and licked the oven door. yelping abounded. poor girl. never tried that one again!]

  54. p – pet peeves: the cynicism and overall negativity that permeates my generation.

  55. q – quote from a movie: i give you airplane.

rumack: you’d better tell the captain we’ve got to land as soon as we can. this woman has to be gotten to a hospital.
elaine: a hospital? what is it?
rumack: it’s a big building with patients, but that’s not important right now.

  56. r – righty or lefty? i’m a righty.

  57. siblings: 3 bros, 3 SIL’s, 1 BIL, and 2 step bros. whew, that’s a lotta people.

  58. t – time i wake up: anywhere from 7:30-8. and any later than about 8:20ish, and i feel totally useless and groggy.

  59. v – veggie i dislike: beets. hands down. yuck, yuck, yuckyyyyyyy. i seriously can’t even stand to smell them.

  60. w – why i run late: honestly? probably because i spent too much time in the mirror. no joke. i get lost there, hahaha!

  61. x – x-rays i’ve had: many. teeth, ankle from that one time i fell while running to my dorm and carrying 35 lbs of books on my back, my head from that time when i was 5 and i fell outta the car on the access road.

  62. [random bit of trivia #whatever: it took a lot for me to say "access road". i'm really not even sure if that's right or not, cuz in houston we always called them feeders....apparently we're the only part of the country that really does that.....anyway, i was referring to the little roads on the side of the freeway.]

  63. y – yummy food: FRUIT, fruit smoothies, fruit and yogurt parfaits, chocolate covered fruit, fruit crepes, etc. is it obvious i’m having a fruit craving?

also, i heart sushi, pizza (homemade or from an italian restaurant), guacamole (no chips needed…i eat it straight from the bowl), thick, rich brownies.

  64. zoo/favorite animal: my two faves to see are the penguins and the ostriches. sooo cute/funny!
