  1. Roo's Mom says:

    Good Morning, God!

And, yes, I have this on a Thrive Africa stainless coffee mug … thanks to Roo!

    It is my fave!

  2. Roo's Mom says:

    Good Morning, God!

And, yes, I have this on a Thrive Africa stainless coffee mug … thanks to Roo!

  3. roo says:

Good God, it’s morning! I am not a very happy person some mornings. This morning, I was up at 5!!!!!! AHHHHH!
But it’s something I’m working on.
Oh, and I brought my Thrive mug to J-lem. I like it lots.

  4. danielle says:

I am not a morning person at all either…but this post made me smile in the morning :) You’re super cool for posting this.

I usually try to combine the two in a song or something ;)

  5. Tonggu Momma says:

The latter. Of course. Until I’ve ingested copious amounts of caffeine.

  6. Sarah says:

I use to warn my college roommates not to take it personally if all I did was scowl and grunt at them in the morning before class. I am still that way and my husband finds it endearing, of course, and my kids are use to it.

My personal dream is to be able to wake up and get up whenever it suits me, without the prompting of an alarm or children or sunlight for that matter.

  7. Heidi says:

    I love Mornings!!!

    The early the better!

  8. Joy Ren says:

i’m guilty of the first one…
i’m your typical annoyingly chipper and energetic morning person…bouncin’ around…singing…talking up a storm…

    poor hubby…

  9. Jessica says:

Good Morning God! Most of the time I am awake before my alarm goes off. Sad, huh? I would really like to sleep in to like 9 am :0! but I can’t remember the last time I did.

  10. jaceinafrica08 says:

the phrase from the Thrive mug nice with it :)
but umm i usually say goooood morning beautiful now get your butt up out of this bed.

then i turn on some good music that gets me going.

i must say the goood morning beautiful now get your butt up out of this bed works like a charm though.

  11. Marc says:

Good Morning, God! definitely… it just might take a few times for me to say it right when i get up in the morning.

  12. Marisa says:

definitely the latter. i cherish the days where i don’t have class until noon-ish so that i can wake up without an alarm. that beeping in the morning is one of the worst sounds EVER.

  13. Jennifer Griffin says:

I have to admit that I am not a morning person. I’ve tried!!!! I don’t think I wake up mad or not wanting to get up but, I’m not chipper! I try to read my Bible first thing so that I can change my attitude fast!

  14. Shinea says:

Definitely the latter, but that little song has helped many times. (I sing it to Jack sometimes :)) You would think that 4 months into motherhood, I would be used to getting up early, but I was made to wake up some time around 9 a.m.

  15. moweezle says:

Unfortunately, I am NOT a morning person, so I would have to say plan B. Most mornings I wake up and think, “seriously… all ready???” then I hear my ‘beyond-a-morning-roommate’ up and being all cheerful and thats when I turn over and plead with God for 5 more minutes. :)

  16. Brandy says:

second one. ugh. especially when I’ve not slept the night before.

  17. gitz says:

I HATE mornings… so so so so so much pain. But I’m always cheerful when I wake up. I lived with girls who hated the fact that I was so talkative in the mornings.

So… there’s a conundrum for you. I hate mornings, but it *appears* like I’m a morning person.

  18. Anna says:

    Good God, it’s morning!!!!!!!!!

Not a morning person here…. ha!

  19. alece says:

jean — some day i’ll have to tell you the story behind that…

roo — (back to back ruwe comments! woohoo!) you brought it to j-lem?! that made me so happy!

yeller — oh yeah? a song?! hee hee…

    TM — mmmm… i need a venti. STAT.

sarah indeed — i have that very same dream.

heidi — can we still be friends?

joy renee — ummm… i don’t want to see you till after noon, k?

jessica — the only good thing about waking up before your alarm is missing out on that obnoxious sound!

jace — works like a charm? i’ll have to try.

marc — i always took as you a morning guy.

marisa — EVER! back home i have an iHome alarm, so i can wake up to my iPod instead of that incessant beeping!

  20. alece says:

jennifer — my problem is definitely NOT wanting to get up… ugh.

shineanea — you sing it to jack?! that just melted my heart.

mo — always five more minutes. always.

brandy — i thought you recently confessed that you prefer to wake up early. you’re confusing me, girl!

fritz — my lip pouted out when i read “so much pain”. i’m sorry friend. and you know, i’m the same conundrum. i HATE mornings. but have had to do lots of early morning road trips with our interns, and i’ll be fun and chatty and cheerful… even though it’s only 5 AM. and then they don’t want to believe that i’m really not a morning person. i just suck it up, do what i need to do, i guess… ???

anna — your avatar picture makes me laugh. every single time. but especially this time, cause i was imagining a tiny baby saying “not a morning person here!”

  21. TheNorEaster says:

Usually, in the middle of the night, I say, “Good Morning, God.”

It’s good habit that I’ve got to get back into.

Why the middle of the night?

Because the sun is always rising.

    Always.

  22. @ngie says:

    Morning person = me. :-]

  23. alece says:

nor — middle of the night, eh? i’m usually up then, but not saying good morning!

@gigi — night person = me. nice to meet you! :)

  24. roo says:

    Go ruwes, eh!?
Hm. And on second-thought… (I’m still not a morning person) I need to work on saying both. Not so much that I need to be cheerful – that wouldn’t be me, but I need to work on being in that constant state of communication with God. Progress. Always work for progress.

  25. Melissa says:

Give me five minutes after the alarm goes off and it is Good Morning God. After that, I am a morning person. I was the wierdo during undergrad who TRIED to schedule my classes to be done at Noon.

  26. Marisa says:

i’m always afraid i won’t actually wake up to my ipod. when i’ve done it in the past, the song just ends up in my dream and i just keep on sleeping.

@melissa: those of us who schedule classes for the afternoon are grateful for the people like you! it allows more openings in our classes :)

  27. roxx says:

I don’t know what you’re talking about. When I wake up in the morning, doves fly and birds chirp a song to me. Then I put on my colorful gown and mice help me make breakfast.

Oh, wait. I must be mixing that up with fairy tales my daughter watches.

    Hmmm…

How bout, “Thank you Jesus (litterally), for pony tales and powder bronzer, that can be applied while getting 3 kids out the door in 15 minutes.”

I like bedtimes better when the kids are asleep and I have house to self. But all else being equal I get more done in the am.

What does this all mean? I’ve just confused myself. Maybe I am neither.

    :)

  28. edfromct says:

Most days I sleep through morning, don’t get up until around noon.

It has been a long time since I didn’t feel great in the morning. Actually not since I retired.

  29. Debra says:

I was not a morning person in that I LOVED sleeping in when I was single. I married a morning person and 5 months later, I was pregnant and children turn you into a morning person. :)

So, now, I wake up and say “Good Morning, God!” and start praying for the day and being thankful that I am blessed regardless of the circumstances of my life. I am learning that this is a good habit to cultivate … and it does take cultivating! :)

  30. alece says:

roo — i got a mental image of you holding a cardboard sign: will work for progress.

melissa — way to go with the early morning classes. i couldn’t do it, but power to ya!

marisa — really?! that’s too funny. mine gets progressively louder. that helps.

roxx — i love how you confused yourself in your comment! ha!

ed — i would sleep past noon everyday if i could!

debra — you’re right! it’s something i need to be intentional about (no matter what time i wake up!)

  31. alece says:

my mom sang the same song! ugh… i used to hate waking up. wait a minute… i still do!

  32. Heidi says:

can you guys come to my house and sing that song to me. The alarm is set for tomorrow already 4:15

    R U comin?

  33. alece says:

    ummmm…. i don’t think i’m gonna make it!

  34. Heidi says:

    dang! what a shame!

  35. danielle says:

i was thinking about this post today, it made me smile again. i love that you wrote this.

  36. jaceinafrica08 says:

you should try it on the real.

haha i totally had a SAKURITYYYYYY moment today.
    made me bust out laughing.

  37. back in the days i had a ‘real’ job it was definitely ‘Oh God it’s morning!’ (already) and there was no ‘good’ involved.

That even extended into the weekends most times and was probably ‘learned’ as a response to school day ‘discipline’. (school is definitely designed to ‘prepare’ us for a life of working for da man).

At rare times now that i am not compelled to work against my ‘will’ i have found there to be short periods in my life when i wake up without an alarm clock around sunrise and get out in the fresh air and just soak up the joy of a cool quiet morning in His prescence without any pressures of a day to come upon me and those days are undoubtedly the best days of all.

Having said that i seem to be able to relate VERY strongly with you and Mo and for a thankfully brief period in my life like Gitz also (Arthritis – now under control) and the other ‘night owls.

There is certainly a strong link i find between going to bed EARLY, sleeping soundly, and getting up with a smile on your dial :-)

Working (out?) hard during your day then helps you feel tired at an appropriate time to keep your body going in the same cycle.

it’s hard to go to bed early if you get out of bed after noon ;-)

Some people believe God speaks most loudly to you during night time hours and as you are sleeping. (or maybe it is that then your own voice is at it’s weakest/quietest – in the absence of the Light?

That can be an incentive to sleep ‘sooner’?

How’s the melatonin levels these days?

    <B

  38. tam says:

it depends on what day it is. school morning….not welcomed.

saturday – oh YAH!! the next 12 days while my kids are on spring break will be good morning, God.

yah. my good mornings are conditional.

  39. Joy Ren says:

    yyyyeah, i get that a lot. :)

  40. annie says:

    need you ask?

    “Not already! I’m still tired!”

    LOVE me my nights. :)

  41. roo says:

…and i just giggled a little bit in my head – because i noticed that you got rid of the “fiber” page and now the little boy’s butt is there, for everyone to see. hehe.

  42. tre says:

the only time me and the morning get along is when i haven’t gone to bed yet, when the p.m. turns to a.m. i am so not a fan of mornings. sleeping is one of my favorite hobbies.

like right now giving up chai’s for lent is killing softly!

  43. Heidi says:

    Yes, We can!!

    most definately.

  44. gitz says:

my mom sang that EVERY morning!

  45. tam says:

this goes SO good with that avatar! classic :D

  46. alece says:

ha ha! i thought so too!

  47. roo says:

You know… that sounds just right to me. Poor and trying.
